Tabzy privacy policy

Tabzy helps you split a bill: it reads a receipt, works out who owes what, and gets each person's share ready to text. It's made by PrismaZap ("we").

In short: Tabzy has no accounts and no servers. Your bills, receipt photos and the people you split with stay on your phone. We never see them. The one thing that leaves your phone is basic diagnostic information sent to Google by the text-recognition component, described below; it doesn't include your receipts or anything you type.

What Tabzy keeps on your phone

• Bills: items, prices, tax and tip; the names, phone numbers and Venmo usernames of the people on each bill; and who you've asked and who has paid.
• Receipt photos: copies of the receipt pictures you scan or choose, so you can look back at them.
• Settings: your name and payment usernames (Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, Zelle), your reminder and message settings, the people you split with recently, groups you save, and whether you have Tabzy Pro.

All of this is stored only in Tabzy's private storage on your phone. Bills and receipt photos are also kept out of Android's device backup. Your settings, recent people and groups can be included in Android's own backup to your Google account if backup is turned on for your phone. That backup is handled by Android and Google, and we can't see it.

You can delete a bill in the app at any time. Uninstalling Tabzy, or clearing its storage in your phone's settings, deletes everything it kept.

Camera, photos and contacts

• Scanning: the receipt scanner is Google's document scanner, provided by Google Play services. Tabzy doesn't have camera permission itself; it receives the finished scan.
• Choosing a photo: Android's photo picker gives Tabzy only the photo you pick, not your photo library.
• Contacts: when you add someone from your contacts, Android's contact picker gives Tabzy only the name and number you pick. Tabzy doesn't have permission to read your contacts.

Reading receipts

Receipts are read on your phone by Google's ML Kit text recognition. Your receipt images and the text in them are not sent anywhere.

ML Kit does send Google basic diagnostic information to help Google keep the component working well: device details (such as manufacturer, model and Android version), Tabzy's name and version, performance and error information, and an identifier for this installation that isn't meant to identify you or your phone. It's encrypted in transit and used by Google for diagnostics and usage analytics. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure and Google's privacy policy.

Sending requests and reminders

Tabzy never sends messages itself. When you send a request or a reminder, it opens your messaging app, your share sheet or Venmo with the message ready, and you choose whether to send it. What you send goes through that app, under its own privacy terms. Messages can include links to your Venmo, Cash App or PayPal with the amount filled in.

Reminder notifications are scheduled on your phone. Tabzy has no notification server.

Tabzy Pro

Tabzy Pro is a one-time purchase made through Google Play. Google Play handles the payment, so we never see your card or other payment details; Google's privacy policy covers what Google keeps. Tabzy asks Google Play whether your Google account owns Pro, and remembers the answer on your phone so Pro works offline; the app sends nothing about it to us. Like every developer on Google Play, we can see order records in Google's Play Console (such as an order number, the date and the country) to handle refunds, but not your payment details.

What we don't do

• We don't collect, sell or share your personal information.
• We don't use advertising, ad identifiers or analytics of our own.
• We don't need you to create an account or sign in.

Children

Tabzy is meant for adults and isn't directed at children under 13.
